ABOUT JARED - A ONE STOP SHOP!

Jared Kallen

Jared earned his Master’s Degree in Secondary Education with High Honors from the University of Pennsylvania and his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Amherst College. He has taught and coached English, History, Sociology, Political Science, Philosophy, American Studies, ALL Literature, and French to students in both private and public schools. While at Penn, he created innovative curricula for 9th-12th graders in English and Social Studies at an inner-city magnet school. He is a contributing member of The Learning Disabilities Association of Montgomery County (LDAMC), The Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD), the ADHD Coaches Organization, the Bethesda Chamber of Commerce (Health and Wellness Committee) AND The Philadelphia Mainline Chamber of Commerce.

While at The Field School, Jared developed interdisciplinary English and History curricula for grades 7 through 12, designed to increase student connections to the world outside of the classroom. He emphasized and fostered critical thinking skills by using primary sources, and he promoted interaction, engagement, and accountability through extensive exposure to group work, mock debates, simulations, re-enactments, reciprocal games, and individual portfolio work. In addition, while at Field, Jared conceived and taught advanced placement courses that incorporated fiction “classics” and primary sources during the summers, coursework which culminated in a final essay whose topic was of the student’s choosing (and assessed very carefully and comprehensively in the end).
