George Washington University Repeat Senior

I met Jared Kallen one year ago in late August. It's truly shocking that Jared and I have only known each other for one year because he has made such a profound impact on my life and has enabled me to succeed in the future by providing me with the tools and guidance that any young person needs in their early-20's. It feels like I've known him my whole life. Jared and I were able to connect right off the bat, as we got along on a personal level and he seemed to always find innovative and creative methods to help motivate me through a myriad of challenges. Jared always challenges me to be better, to try harder, or maybe to just think or approach a situation from an alternate perspective. Although he was initially hired by my family to be a tutor/mentor figure in my life, our relationship became a lot deeper than that and it didn't take long for me to realize how incredible of a human being Jared Kallen is. He's a man that thinks about the human first. I had taken a semester off from school due to personal reasons and I was returning to GW last fall with an opportunity to graduate in May and pursue career opportunities that I was highly interested in. However, school had never really been my forte and I always found myself incredibly uninterested in the classes and subjects that I was required to take in order to graduate. However, I knew that I needed to finish my coursework and attain my degree if I wanted achieve any semblance of success in my life. I just had no idea how I was going to accomplish all of this – I didn’t have the tools. However, meeting Jared changed everything for me. He began to hold me accountable for my actions both inside and outside of the classroom but was able to deliver the message of accountability while also showing me tremendous support and helping ease the pressure off me through his "day by day" approach. Jared was able to create a comfortable and open dynamic with me, and he is truly someone I can say that I fully trust with my life. Ultimately, I was able to graduate in May with the best grades I've ever received in school, but Jared's impact had deeper implications on my life than just academic success. Jared taught me how to hold myself accountable and how to manage my life considering I am diagnosed with an anxiety disorder and ADHD. One of the main things Jared taught me is that although those diagnoses are real and do have an effect on my life, it's not something that I can control. Jared challenged me to focus on the important things in my life--the things that I could control: especially my own actions. Through Jared's assistance and a lot of hard work on my end, I feel like a completely different person than who I was a year ago today. We worked together as a team and from the moment I met Jared, I could sense that he believed in me and wanted the best for me. He's the type of influence that I feel so fortunate to have in my life and I believe that Jared

Working with Jared has truly been a pleasure for me. He does a superb job helping me through my schoolwork. I have worked with multiple academic coaches throughout my life and I believe that Jared is among the best of those. The biggest reason for this is his focus on the basics of the given assignment. Returning to the assignment's core objective is usually the best way to get back on track to completing it. Then, I have increased direction, accountability, and motivation. Why? Because Jared has proven, time and time again, that he accepts nothing less.

Highly recommend!!!!!!!!!!!!

Consistently lead to a fun-filled learning experience. When I first came to Jared, my sentences were run-ons and I had no real idea how to organize my thoughts. I had dropped out of College and one condition for readmission was that I had to become a more proficient and effective writer. Jared puts his all into making sure the lessons are driven effectively into his students' minds. Parents who are really concerned about their kids’ ability to articulate and structure their thoughts -- whether they are in middle school or graduate school -- SHOULD LOOK NO FURTHER.

Jared has been a very helpful coach and mentor during my college years. He helped me manage my coursework, and kept me focused and on task through daily text communication and weekly follow up meetings. During our meetings, Jared would go through my assigned work for the upcoming week in a structured manner, and ensured that I had a plan to complete the assignments on time.

In addition, Jared would also ask me probing questions and give me suggestions on how to proceed with my work. While working with him, I substantially improved my email writing proficiency, and developed skills to more effectively manage my workload. In one particular instance, Jared helped me draft an email to my teacher to allow me to retake an exam where under normal circumstances this accommodation would never have been allowed.

In addition, Jared helped me craft a professional resume for summer jobs. I would definitely recommend Jared to other students struggling with motivation, organizational issues, depression and anxiety.

OH, and one more thing. I had never physically met Jared until, one day, he showed up at my house, unannounced. What followed was one of the most riveting and memorable days of my life. My parents had arranged for Jared to conduct an "intervention," but I was not scared at all. Why? Because Jared let everyone take turns, and my parents and Jared -- and I -- explained and described BOTH their frustrations and their expectations out loud. Then, we all signed a contract!

What I learned that day is that Jared is a real find -- a soft bear mixed with a mini-hurricane, if you will.

Medical Devices, ABIOMED

I was in sales for decades, but had always accepted rarely meeting my sales quotas. I had also accepted the constant disappointment leveled at me by my boss.

I had to change something -- so, upon someone's recommendation -- I reached out to Jared. Jared immediately jumped in, asked lots of questions, listened, and then we got down to the nitty gritty. It turns out that I was listening to too many voices from people way in my past -- and that was disrupting and impeding me during my many sales calls.

Once Jared helped me to identify my triggers and obstacles, I felt less guilty and was more willing to jump into action -- and ignore whatever occurred in the past.

Before I encountered Jared, I was constantly misreading work situations, not understanding exactly what was expected of me, and therefore, often failing. A colleague might tell me something, or give me feedback, and I would read too much into it. Then, I would grow resentful and shut down.

Now, having worked through a lot of this and developing coping strategies with Jared's guidance, experience, and wisdom, I know can travel through my day with more ease, more productivity, and LESS worry.

A GREAT MENTOR: MOTIVATIONAL, INSPIRATIONAL, FOCUSED, AND EXPANSIVE – AND SUPER TERRIFIC WITH THE COLLEGE ESSAY

I recommend Jared because he puts his maximum effort into coaching and he is very enthusiastic and engaging. He is always on top of things and looks for any way that he can help. To his credit, he constantly has a smile on his face and exhibits a positive attitude. Every time he comes to the house or is on a video call, he is eager to help me with new tasks. He loves a challenge.

Thanks to him, I have greatly improved my writing and my time management skills -- and my self-confidence.

It used to be that I would avoid writing like the plague!! However, after Jared introduced me to the ACE writing method, I was able to enhance my abilities to write overtime. To be honest, I used to be a “minimalist.” But Jared has taught me that pushing myself consistently is the only way that I can maximize my potential. He is a terrific communicator – “Are you with me?” – and never forgets to check in with me. In particular, he was tasked to help me with my college essay. He was a tremendous help because he really was able to unlock potential that I never saw in myself. Coming from a broken past, he was able to advise me on how I could write “my story” and be able to tell it to others in an engaging and informative manner. He assessed the weaknesses that I once had and showed me how I had actually turned them into strengths. I was able to tell my story of resilience, adjustment, and subsequent hard work in the way that I wanted. Jared is not only a great mentor, but he is also someone who I can call my friend. To sum it up, I came to Jared lacking some motivation and skill gaps and I am now headed to College armed with a powerful toolkit at my disposal. It has been a terrific journey!

Jared Kallen; a scarily intelligent educator with an inhuman dedication to his work, is one of the few coaches I can confidently call my friend. He gets to know his students, not because it benefits his work, but because he genuinely cares. I had trouble motivating myself to get any work done until I had the pleasure of meeting Jared. Single-handedly he filled me with enthusiasm and hope through pep talks, videos, text messages, and boisterous cheers. He ignited previously untapped energy that pushed me to new heights, infinitely improving my learning and comprehension. I saw instantaneous results in my writing and test-taking skills thanks to his past experience as a teacher. Even if I hit a random rough spot thought the school year, Jared was always one text message away from immediate reassurance, guidance, and execution. He would even review papers to help make insightful suggestions that dramatically improved my understanding of a plethora of topics. He is so versatile that he has been invaluable in helping me reach my maximum potential and has beyond exceeded expectations. If you're looking for a literal guardian angel, look no further than Jared Kallen.

All I would say is, that when I started with you, I was never really motivated to DO anything. I never thought it was possible to go outside my comfort zone and actually work on improving myself. I thought life was just at a standstill with no changes and everything you do every day will always just be the same. I started to discover new things about myself because I didn’t know I was capable UNTIL I started meeting with you. Thanks very much for widening my universe -- exponentially -- and holding me accountable until I learned how to do that myself.

20 Year Old Woman With Emotional Dysregulation And Few Coping Skills

Jared gave great advice when it comes to a person trying to manage their life and how to go about it after college. He is so easy to talk to and there is NEVER any time for awkward silence. Jared knows how to help you bring out your weaknesses (in a good way!), and help you learn how to deal with them in the future. The best advice I got from him is “ if you don’t get paid enough to get stressed out at work then don’t get stressed.” I really took that to heart and it honestly changed the way I look at things in life. I loved working with Jared and would recommend him to anyone !

He is fully prepared for each meeting and uses time efficiently. While helping me edit my college essays, Jared not only fixes small errors like grammar, but he also looks at the big picture to make sure the questions are being answered correctly and completely. Jared helps me stay focused and constantly introduces me to new ideas to improve my writing. He is patient and emphasizes a "growth mindset." He is a very thorough and strong writer. Jared pushes students to do their best. He is honest and positive, making sure that students work hard, while at the same time ensuring they have the support they need to complete the task at hand. I do not know how I would be getting through this process without him!

After my school was closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, I found that I had a lot of work that I needed to do using methods that I was not accustomed to. Staying on top of assignments and getting them done in a timely and efficient manner were just a couple of problems that I had. Jared was recommended to me as a great resource so I reached out to him and he really helped me regain control of my schoolwork by helping me organize my time and set goals. Not only that, but just the knowledge that he was someone who was staying in touch and keeping track of what I had to do and what I had done really helped give me the motivation to do my work. I owe a HUGE “Thank You” to Jared for helping me end the second semester of my freshman year with great grades despite the significant changes that I and many other college students experienced. He has even begun to help me find a summer job and guide me in pursuing future careers. I’m glad Jared was recommended to me and, having worked with him, I’m pleased to recommend him as a great mentor and educational coach.

I did not know how to approach the Common App College essay -- at all.

I was "good" with 5 paragraph essays -- but this was clearly a different "animal" -- and one that I had never encountered before.

Jared was pivotal in laying out the necessary steps so that I could arrive at an authentic and, hopefully, superior essay -- one that would impress all of those Admissions officers!

And that is exactly what happened...........

I cannot thank Jared enough for his gentle yet firm guidance........

I had always had difficulty living and working to my potential, but I did not know why. I had begun to accept that I was going to have a mediocre career and and average life -- and nothing more.

Upon someone's recommendation, I reached out to Jared and he jumped right in. We explored possible obstacles, some that stemmed from the distant past, and then Jared was able to create an effective action plan for me. Jared is a really good listener -- and is willing to probe until he sees the "whole picture."

Georgetown Day School Headed to Brown University

There's something unique about Jared Kallen’s approach to tutoring. When I meet with him, I never once have thought, “Well, back to another monotonous meeting.” Every interaction is new and full of concentrated and focused energy. Whether I’m being greeted with a “What’s up Eminem?” or “How ya doing Pete Davidson?” – based on my buzzed blonde hair – I never once felt the typical distance a tutor and his/her student are often subjected to. It’s this jovial familiarity he inspires and promotes -- along with his razor sharp intellect and huge breadth of knowledge -- that allowed for such a phenomenal working relationship that helped me through almost the entirety of high school.

12th Grader

icon_badge_blue.png

A Boarding School in Pennsylvania

At the start of my junior year, the struggle to manage my school work became real. I was unmotivated to do my work and procrastinated a lot. A huge part of this was due to my ADHD, which, I later learned, controlled me and my work habits. As the year progressed, though, I felt that I had improved and was more motivated to do my work. So when my parents decided to hire an executive function coach to help me with my work, I was really annoyed. I was doing well in school again – on my own – so having to work with a coach felt unnecessary, like a chore. I held a grudge against my coach at first. I didn’t need him, so I disliked him.

At the end of our first meeting, we set up a system where I would text him my assignments on a daily basis. I thought this was the stupidest thing ever: it felt so redundant to me. However, the more I worked with him, the more I warmed up to him. He would help me schedule my week and improve my writing style so my essays were far superior to what they were previously. I felt more productive and organized than ever before! Soon enough, my grades were even better than when we started. Now, I’m glad to work with my coach. I’ve learned that it’s okay to ask for help and it doesn't make you look weak or incapable.

The first thing you notice in Jared is his extremely positive, supportive attitude that motivates me to get things done. Jared is also always prepared for the meetings. He’s knowledgeable and helpful with any topics we go over. In short, I can count on him for anything I need, whether it's extra motivation or additional content in any of my many classes. I have had other tutors before, and they were either too intense or they didn't seem to really care much about how I did. He invests in me, he knows how to push me gently -- and that works really well for me.

Jared taught me while I was at The Field School and he was also the Assistant Baseball Coach. He was an impassioned teacher who brought great enthusiasm to class each day, guiding discussions while allowing his students to come to their own conclusions. As a Baseball Coach, Jared was extremely supportive when I went through a rough time due to an elbow injury. As a pitcher, I was distraught. He taught me how to turn adversity into my friend. He brought a ton of positive energy to the classroom AND to the ball field. Later, he helped me a ton with my career. I have very fond memories of him!

Jared's "straight talk" and ability to develop action plans -- and his willingness to motivate me -- made a huge impact. I was a poor writer, and uninterested in getting better at writing. Jared has a simple process for this -- and it's easy to follow. I told him that I saw no point in going to College -- and he did not care about that -- because he explained that, no matter what I did in life -- I would have to learn HOW to be a better writer and communicator.

Could not have done it without him!

When I reached out to Jared Kallen, I had been through enough. To be specific, I knew that I was more than capable of doing my work for my company, but I was constantly getting distracted and I was NOT able to keep "my eye on the ball." I was constantly getting tripped up by my thoughts about how other people were perceiving me.

Jared helped me to separate fact from fiction, in my own head, and then devised a plan where I could sidestep my own "booby traps" and forge ahead -- and produce more. His empathy and keen intelligence about how commerce works really fortified me.

I cannot thank him enough for teaming up with me at a critical juncture in my personal and professional life.

For over one decade, my life was full of job successes and failures -- and I could never pull it together for the long-term. I would have a few good months, then get impulsive, then find myself in conflict with a manager above me -- and then things would get worse.

I felt really stuck, until I really talked things through with Jared -- and we developed a customized action plan based on what had happened in the past.

I have learned a lot and been more active on my behalf -- and it has paid off in dividends in every area of my life. Everyone could benefit from help with a dude like Jared!

I highly recommend Jared Kallen as an executive functioning AND life coach. He is no-nonsense in the best way possible. He is straightforward, consistent, and deeply invested in helping me build real lasting life skills. Unlike others I’ve worked with, Jared holds me accountable without judgment. He’s on my back when I’m making poor choices, not to criticize, but to build my confidence and steer me back on track.

I have had many instances of therapists switching practices or no longer being available after a few sessions, which has been very discouraging, but Jared’s approach to having a five months guarantee of his availability sweeps all of that under the rug.

Jared‘s persistence in helping me succeed has helped me build life skills I didn’t think I'd be able to.

His daily check-ins keep me grounded and reliable, and through our work, I’ve learned not only skills that help manage my ADHD, but to truly embrace it. Jared’s coaching has helped me feel more in control and confident in my day-to-day life. It is definitely an ongoing process, but for the first time in a very long time I am not afraid of my future, but instead excited for the control I am learning to take over now.

His authenticity and dedication --- and highly engaging personality -- truly sets him apart.
